Tax Certificate: Essential Information for Your Tax Reduction

New legislation concerning tax certificates has been in force since 1 January 2024. Associations are now required to provide the tax authorities with the national number (NN) of all donors who wish – and are entitled – to receive a tax certificate (requirement stipulated by the Federal Public Service Finance - art. 323/3 CIR92.)

The aim is to guarantee the identity of donors so that tax benefits are applied transparently and correctly. In practical terms, this information is now mandatory in order for a tax certificate to be issued.

Companies / Legal Entities

The same rules to tax reductions for donations made since 1 January 2024 apply for legal entities or companies. The company number (Crossroads Bank) must be provided instead of the national number.

Please note

Couples: Tax certificates are preferably issued to one partner, in that partner’s name, using their NN (the deductible amount will automatically be included in the joint tax return).
Foreign donors: most foreign nationals who reside and pay tax in Belgium have a valid NN BIS for the 281.71 tax form. The BIS number can be found on the Belgian identity card, payslips, the tax assessment notice, pension documents, etc.
Anonymity: A tax certificate cannot be issued if no personal data of the donor is known, or if the person wishes to remain anonymous.
