Eating and helping
The 4 cornerstones of the fight against poverty are food support, education support, housing support and health care support. Although the Resto du Cœur were created with a view to provide – and are still mainly providing – food support, they’ve gradually broadened their scope. Today, those other 3 cornerstones, which are essential to the rehabilitation of a person and his/her emancipation, are also at the heart of our action.
In order to coordinate these various cornerstones within each unit, the Resto du Cœur have developed a social service aiming to:
- Help beneficiaries regain their social rights;
- Target the problems people are faced with;
- Inform beneficiaries of possible solutions;
- If need be, direct people to other services in the social structure;
- Present the services the restaurant offers.
The main mission of the Belgian Resto du Cœur is to serve hot meals to the most deprived people, in a welcoming and friendly environment, all year round.
Yet the concept of the Resto du Cœur is about much more than an action against hunger. The Resto du Cœur offer many services that provide support and aim to meet needs as best as possible, whether social, medical, legal, education… Our work doesn’t stop with clean plates and full bellies!
