FOOD AID

Every day, many people in Belgium find themselves in a precarious economic situation and must rely on food aid to meet their daily needs.

Our mission is not limited to distributing meals. We also act as a genuine solidarity‑based platform for the distribution of goods, redistributing surplus food received from companies, shops and producers to the various Restos du Cœur and partner associations across Belgium.

Precariousness continues to affect a growing number of families, students, elderly people and vulnerable workers. Faced with this reality, the Restos du Cœur remain mobilised to guarantee dignified access to varied and balanced food.

IN 2025

1,569,180 meals and food parcels distributed:

  • consistently high attendance;
  • requests that continue to rise;
  • a particularly marked increase among single‑parent families and precarious workers.

In the face of this situation, the Restos du Cœur remain committed to ensuring that no one is left behind.

Meals to meet urgent needs.

Each meal distributed aims to cover the essential nutritional requirements of a day.

We ensure that meals are complete and balanced, including:

  • a source of protein,
  • vegetables,
  • starchy foods,
  • and, where possible, a starter, dessert or piece of fruit.

But the Restos du Cœur are also places of welcome, listening and solidarity, where everyone is received with dignity.

FOOD PARCELS

Our food parcels enable beneficiaries to prepare several meals at home.

They are made up of a variety of products:

  • tinned goods,
  • fresh products,
  • starchy foods,
  • hygiene items,
  • drinks,
  • children’s products when possible.

Each parcel is adapted to the family composition and the specific needs of the people receiving support.

SCHOOL MEALS

Because no child should ever have to learn on an empty stomach, some Restos du Cœur also support families with food aid specifically intended for school‑age children.

This aid helps to:

  • improve learning conditions,
  • reduce inequalities,
  • support the most vulnerable families.

LOCAL SUPPORT

For elderly people, those who are ill, or those with reduced mobility, some centres also organise:

  • home deliveries,
  • distribution of food parcels,
  • occasional emergency assistance.

Our volunteer teams remain attentive to the most vulnerable situations so that no one is left aside.

SOLIDARITY MADE POSSIBLE BY OUR PARTNERS

Each year, companies, producers, shops and citizens enable us to continue our mission through their food donations and logistical support.

Without this chain of solidarity, thousands of meals could not be distributed.

SUPPORT FROM THE EUROPEAN SOCIAL FUND PLUS (ESF+)

Our association also distributes food products whose production is financed by the Federal Food Aid Programme under the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).

Thanks to this fund granted by the European Union, Belgium has resources dedicated to combating food and/or material insecurity.

This fund is managed by the PPS Social Integration, which each year supplies more than 750 organisations and the CPAS (Public Social Welfare Centres) with foodstuffs (milk, tinned vegetables and fish, spreads, oil, etc.) to be distributed free of charge to the most deprived throughout Belgium. This is done in collaboration with the Restos du Cœur of Belgium Federation, the Red Cross, Foodsavers Antwerpen, Alimen'T and the country’s nine food banks.

ESF+ food aid is complemented by social support measures to help people move out of poverty.
