The Mobile Resto du Cœur Wallonia: much more than a food parcel service
July 2025
In 2024, the Mobile Resto du Cœur Wallonia distributed 40,300 food parcels across rural municipalities where access to food aid remains limited or even non-existent. Since it was launched in 2017, this mobile initiative has done more than just bring food: it has also fostered human connections, where social isolation can weigh just as heavily as material hardship.
A supportive presence in remote areas
Based in Fernelmont, the Mobile Resto du Cœur Wallonia travels each week to towns like Wellin, Tellin, Bouillon, Durbuy, Hamois, Beaumont and Hastière. Located far from urban centres, these villages often lack proper access to food aid. Distributions are carefully coordinated in close cooperation with local public social welfare centres (known by the French initials CPAS) to meet the specific needs of beneficiaries.
Each parcel provides enough to prepare two balanced meals for the whole family, including fresh, healthy, and varied products. A symbolic contribution is requested from recipients (€1 per adult, €0.50 per child), in keeping with the spirit of inclusion and reciprocity.
A round of the heart
What makes the Mobile Resto du Cœur Wallonia truly special is the human dedication of the people behind it. At the forefront is Christophe, who oversees the rounds. Present at every distribution, he does more than hand out parcels: he greets, lends a listening ear, and provides reassurance. He knows the beneficiaries, cares about each and every one of them, and always takes time to talk.

Built week after week, this bond of trust often nourishes just as much as what is in the parcel. For many, Christophe has become a point of reference—a familiar, kind figure in lives that can at times feel precarious.
Grateful recipients
The testimonials collected during distribution days speak volumes. Jeannine[1], 52, is now raising her late sister’s daughter:
“It’s not just silly stuff It’s good food. There’s fruit, vegetables, milk… And the friendly atmosphere. Being able to talk, to see people—it’s simply precious.”
Another recipient, a single mother with a teenager, explains:
“I work part-time and top up with a small unemployment benefit, but it’s not enough. The Mobile Resto du Cœur Wallonia helps me get by. Thanks to the parcel, I can cook for several days.”
A vital initiative well worth preserving
The Mobile Resto du Cœur Wallonia is a concrete response to realities that are all too often overlooked. It operates with discretion and compassion, wherever the needs are greatest. Its impact goes far beyond food parcels —it’s a safety net, an extended hand, a caring presence.
In the face of an ongoing economic and social crisis, this type of initiative deserves support, recognition, and long-term funding. Because somewhere along the roads of Wallonia, there’s a van running on compassion—and that changes everything.
