Passing on solidarity : a gesture that outlives us

November 2025

At the Restos du Cœur, solidarity takes a thousand forms.

Some give their time, others their listening ear.

And then there are those who choose to extend that generosity beyond their own lifetime, by including solidarity in their will.

A deeply personal, considered gesture, yet one that carries immense hope: the hope of keeping the chain of compassion alive.

Continuing to help, even after we’re gone

For Denise, commitment has always come naturally.

“I’ve always been involved. I’ve tried to help people feel better ever since I was little. And I’d like that to continue, even when I’m no longer here.”

Her wish is simple: that solidarity doesn’t end with her own story.

“The idea of being useful and of others still benefiting from it really moves me.”

Her words reflect a profound belief: giving is sowing seeds for the future a little.

And in a world where hardship continues to grow, those seeds of solidarity are more vital than ever.

Preparing for the future of the most vulnerable

Every day, the 21 Restos du Cœur of Belgium welcome thousands of people, serve meals, distribute food parcels, support families, and help children along their educational journey.

But to continue these missions tomorrow, we must also think about what comes after.

Walter understood this well:

“Adding a good cause to our will was the natural extension of our life values.”

By choosing to bequeath part of his estate, he ensures that his values continue to translate into tangible actions: meals served, smiles restored, lives improved.

A meaningful and trusting commitment

For others, like Damien, the decision came gradually, guided by a desire to act with integrity.

“Do it. It brings peace of mind. You need to do something balanced and choose a cause that reflects who you are.”

Drawing up a charitable will isn’t about giving up. It’s about preparing, with clarity, the continuation of what you believe in.

It’s a concrete way of saying: “I want what touched me in life to continue helping others after I’m gone”

A legacy from the heart

Raymond shares his story with emotion:

“We were young and determined. We wanted to change the world. I still feel that energy when I support a good cause. And the idea of being useful, even afterwards really appeals to me.”

These words capture the very essence of a legacy gift: a living trace, a heritage of values as much as of assets.

Because what we pass on to the Restos du Cœur isn’t just money. It’s a commitment that continues to nourish, shelter, and bring warmth.

What about you? What would you like to pass on?

Every donation, every meal or food parcel, every word of comfort is a link in a great solidarity chain.

Including the Restos du Cœur in your will strengthens those links.

It’s a gesture of trust, love, and hope for the future.
