2026 Food Collection: 17,424 kg gathered — thank you for this wonderful solidarity

On 6 and 7 March, the Restos du Cœur of Belgium organised its Annual Food Collection Drive.

Thanks to the commitment of volunteers and the generosity of the public, 17,424 kg of food and essential products were collected.

A target not reached, in a challenging context

This year, the target — 30,000 kg — was not reached.

It is the second consecutive year in which the collection has fallen short of needs, with a volume also lower than in 2025.

However, this result must be understood in context.

Several partner shops were ultimately unable to take part in the operation as planned. As a result, the collection took place in far fewer stores than the 35 initially announced, which mechanically reduced the total volume collected.

Despite this, mobilisation remained strong: the average amount collected per shop was 792 kg, compared with 732 kg in 2025.

Needs that continue to grow

When launching the collection, the Restos du Cœur had set this target in order to maintain its distributions in a context of significant pressure on stocks and finances.

Needs remain particularly high on the ground.

In 2025, more than 1.5 million meals and food parcels were distributed -- a level that confirms that food aid has become a long‑term necessity.

At the same time, the amount of goods received free of charge is decreasing, forcing the Restos du Cœur to purchase more products in order to maintain its distributions.

In this context, every kilo collected counts — and also highlights the importance of continuing to mobilise support.
