To mark International Legacy Giving Day, the Restos du Cœur of Belgium invite you to explore a different kind of generosity: leaving a gift in your will to support a good cause.

Often seen as distant or difficult to talk about, a will is nonetheless a concrete way to pass on your values and to extend your commitment well beyond your lifetime.

💛 Why leave a charitable legacy?

Every day, teams are at work across 21 Restos du Cœur throughout Belgium to ensure no one is left behind — whether it is for food, shelter, healthcare, or simply a heedful ear.

In the face of growing hardship, it’s vital to secure the future of these efforts. Including a good cause in your will means:

  • Supporting tangible, long-term projects
  • Bolstering the capacity to welcome and care for others
  • Keeping local solidarity alive

Even a small portion of your estate can make a huge difference, without disadvantaging your loved ones. If we’re still able to carry out our mission today, despite rising demand for food aid, it’s thanks to donors, but also to the legacies we’ve received.

📝 How to leave a legacy

Leaving a legacy is a straightforward, legally recognised process, arranged with a notary. You can choose to leave:

  • A fixed sum of money,
  • A personal or real estate asset,
  • A percentage of your estate, after your loved ones.

You are free to decide what best reflects your wishes.

A bequest is more than a donation: it is a way to leave a lasting impact even after one’s passing. Marc, a prospective benefactor, shares his thoughts: “There are several reasons to leave something to a good cause. It’s part of working towards a better world. Knowing that a better world is also a better world for my daughter and granddaughter.”
